Lionel Messi will be back when PSG and Manchester City fight in the Champions League

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Manchester City hold an early chance to make a mark in the Champions League when they clash in a heavyweight group game at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday which sees Pep Guardiola and his old protégé Lionel Messi face each other.
Qatar-owned PSG and Abu Dhabi-backed Manchester City have Lionel Messi will be back when PSG and Manchester City fight in the Champions Leaguereshaped European football over the last ten years with their budgets are chasing Champions League glory, something that has so far disappeared from the attention of the two clubs, one of whom is currently Messi's club.

PSG has beaten English champions Manchester City with the signing of Messi, who at one point seemed more likely to end up at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City came close to winning the champions league last season when they beat PSG in the semi-finals only to lose to Chelsea in the final in Porto.

PSG, runners-up in 2020, will need revenge for that. "Messi commented for himself, I don't need to describe it. What he did was more than amazing and hopefully tomorrow he can play for the sake of the game," Guardiola said on Monday as quoted by the NDTV Sports website.

Messi has missed PSG's last two games with a minor knee problem. He is yet to score for his new club and has only made three appearances since arriving from Barcelona in early August, completing 90 minutes just once.

That came in a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge in Belgium in PSG's inaugural Champions League Group A game, a result which left Mauricio Pochettino's side already trailing behind City, who finished off RB Leipzig 6-3 last time out.

Both clubs are expected to progress from the group to the last 16, but a loss to PSG at the Parc des Princes will leave them in potentially difficult conditions and possibly even a potential loss from the group stage.

"This is not a decisive battle. Two other strong teams want to qualify for the next round," said former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, PSG's top scorer this season with four goals.

"Sometimes the pressure we have, something I've felt since I came here, it's a pressure that doesn't exist at other clubs in Europe," said Ander Herrera.

"No other team in Europe is obliged to win the Champions League, so this pressure in my opinion is unfair, but it is something we accept and live with," said Ander Herrera.
